We shared a waiting room and I thought all would be well sharing with a specialist but soon discovered that being a hypnotherapist, it isn't easy sharing office space with anyone, because I need peace and quiet.
The ENT doctor and the receptionist were quiet, most of the patients were quiet, but every now and then I would be in the middle of a session...
"so take a nice deep breath and feel yourself sinking down deeper and deeper, you're feeling calm, you're feeling warm and safe and your conscious mind is far away and not listening" "CAN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE DOCTOR AGAIN IN THREE WEEKS PLEASE, NOT ON THE WEDNESDAY AS I AM GOING TO THE HOSPITAL ABOUT MY PROSTATE.'
"and just take another deep breath, and feel the relaxation spread "NO I CAN'T DO THURSDAY MORNING, MAVIS IS GOING TO SEE ABOUT HER BUNIONS, IT IS THURSDAY ISN'T IT MAVIS?"
"from the very tip of your head, down through your chest, relaxing every little muscle in your arms and fingers"
"NO GEORGE IT IS THE WEEK AFTER, AND GEORGE YOU ARE SHOUTING, NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO HEAR WHAT YOU ARE SAYING!!"
There was another instant when a little boy was throwing a tantrum "MUMMMY, MUMMY, MUMMY, MUM, MUMMY, MUM, WHY DID THAT MAN PUT THAT ICE BLOCK STICK DOWN MY THROAT, HE'S NOT A NICE MAN, I'M GOING TO SET SUPERMAN ON HIM, MUMMY, MUM, MUMMY!!"
So began my journey working from my home office.
I've had 3 years now working from home and love it, peace and quiet, just the birds twittering in the background, all in all though very relaxing for me and my clients.
Did I mention I got a Sphynx?
A beautiful little kitten that we named Audrey. Many of my clients love to pat Chynna (hairless dog) or stroke one of our now 3 cats on the way through to my office, we chat about their pets and laugh at the silly things they do.
On this particular day Audrey came up to meet a lovely lady on her way through, she purred and dropped at her feet, the lady put her bag down and spent a few minutes remarking on what an unusual cat she is, she scratched behind her ears, rubbed her tummy before heading down the hall to my office.
A lovely lady, she didn't particularly like cats but had an old Maltese that she and her husband doted on.
We are half way through our session, and the client is happily reclined and in a beautiful state of hypnosis when all of a sudden a little hairless paw comes under the door with a toy mouse attached to the end.
Trying hard to keep my concentration I watched how the paw, lost the mouse then found the mouse all underneath my door, this went on for a good ten minutes, finally giving up Audrey went off to have a nap, and the excitement left the room.
"and on the count of 5 your awareness is starting come back into the room and you are feeling refreshed relaxed and motivated to start your day", the session is over and we open the door to find a Coles Credit card on the floor, further down the hall there's a half chewed packet of tampons followed by a pen, some ripped up tissues and another couple of credit cards and a newly perforated Health Care Card, and inside the now empty handbag is....the Sphynx having her nap!
From now on handbags accompany their owner into my office for safe keeping.
